I agree with the review that the instructions are not the best or easiest to follow if you have never done this before. If you have not done this before, you probably want to find someone who has to save you some headaches. But, I needed to replace the original inards to our toilet in our current house, cheap contractor stuff that just failed, but was also leaking into the bowl. I figured since I have to replace the gasket to flush valve I'll replace everything since it's a relatively new house, so I bought the complete "universal" set. This, I will not do again. The flush valve gasket is NOT UNIVERSAL, it leaked like hell when I put everything back together. I disconnected three times before it occured to me what the problem was, I shut everythng down went to the store and purchased the specific gasket for my toilet (Gerber). Everything was fine after that. But I will not believe the universal claim... This review is from: Fluidmaster 400AK Complete Toilet Tank Repair Kit (Tools & Home Improvement) I purchased 2 of these in January 2011, for about $17 each. We were having issues with one of our toilets, the flapper didn't seal properly so it was slowly leaking water into the tank, which meant it would refill every few minutes or so. We decided to go ahead and replace the parts on both toilets. I had no problem whatsoever installing these. A lot of the bad reviewers say its impossible to do it by yourself and others say the instructions are bad. The instructions show pictures on one side, labeled with numbers, then on the right hand side, those numbers have the written our directions. I don't see how anyone is confused unless they are just looking at just the picture and not bothering to read the actual instructions. They are very straight forward. The overflow pipe did need to be cut, but that will depend on how tall your toilet tank is. It cut very easily with a small hand saw. The flapper is much heavier than the one we had installed previously, and it opens and shuts... The Fluidmaster repair kit would work fine EXCEPT that the red tank-to-toilet gasket supplied with this kit is too small. I installed and uninstalled the kit 3 times, hoping that I could get it to seal properly, but it gushed water from beneath the tank each time. Now I need to find OEM-style replacement gasket from plumber's supply store. So it's not truly a "universal" kit. I bought a Delta faucet/ valve handle to operate the water flow and replaced the standard Delta showerhead with this shower system. This is a quality product looks and feel-wise (as it should be for close to $200). I have only had it installed in my completely remodeled bathroom for 1 month but both shower heads function really well individually as well as when they are both on together - there is no dip in shower pressure at all. I love it and highly recommend this! The only con is PP does not provide the metal flange so I had to source one separately - that took one star away for PP being cheap but they came through for every other part. This review is from: Pfister 016-HH5K Drill-less Slide Bar Shower System, Brushed Nickel (Tools & Home Improvement) As the other reviewer said, this doesn't come with the flange or shower valve, so I just bought the cheapest one at Lowes in the same finish and gave the extra shower head away (they all come as kits). Anyway, the mechanism to change water flow between the shower heads is easy to turn and clicks into place nicely. You can have it flow from the stationary head, the handheld head or both. The water pressure in the handheld head is slightly lower than the stationary head. At first, my contractor installed it as displayed; with the slide bar attached and the handheld unit directly under it. However, the round base at the bottom of the slide bar does not screw on, instead it uses a sticky glue/tape to adhere to the tile. (So far, it's sticking very well, hasn't come off in about a month of use.) I realized the handheld would also fit into this base (although with less adjustability than putting it on the mount it's designed to be mounted on). We put this mount on the adjacent wall. So now... I like the quality of this product; I had looked at several other 3 valve units at my local stores and found tapped threads with large metal shavings still attached, etc. The Kohler part was machined better with more attention to detail - no burrs, etc on the unit. That says a lot. The ceramic washer system is wonderful, as is the 1/4 turn feature for full off to on. I had the old gerber style system with rubber washers. I had to replace those every few months to a year and I was still getting drips. Plus, when you turned them, you didn't get a smooth change in flow rate. The Kohler unit is flawless - no drips, and it smoothly changes the flow from off to on through the 90 degrees. The holes through the wall needed to be enlarged for the valve body - the old gerber valve body was considerably smaller. That said, the only disappointment is that the valve... I finally bought this Kohler diverter. I had the plumber install this as I have no skill in installing plumbing. He was very impressed with the quality. He had to adjust the old pipes to fit the diverter but it was very easy for him. Needless to say I am most pleased with this purchase and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to you. !/4 turn is all you need and the metering of the hot/cold water is very easy. No leaks or splashes on my head if I forget to switch the water to the faucet! It automatically switches when you turn the water off.
